A private tour with a chauffeur is the simplest way to see Barcelona and its surroundings on your own schedule. There is no group, no fixed stops and no waiting for the rest of the bus. You choose the places, the driver handles parking, the route and the time lost between sights.
Tours are priced as hourly hire, which is what keeps them predictable. If you want only a transfer, the chauffeur service Barcelona home page lists the other options.
What a chauffeur tour service includes
You book a vehicle with a driver for a number of hours. The driver takes you from stop to stop and waits while you visit. Hire has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum. Extra hours are charged at the hourly rate. It does not include entry tickets or a guide’s commentary: those are separate and you book them directly.
Prices for a day with a driver
All prices are in euros and include VAT.
| Hire | E-Class | S-Class | V-Class | Sprinter | Minibus | Coach |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 hours (minimum per day) | €470 | €745 | €470 | €610 | €685 | €685 |
| 8 hours | €630 | €990 | €630 | €785 | €900 | €900 |
The E-Class and S-Class take up to 3 passengers, the V-Class up to 7, the Sprinter up to 16, the minibus up to 33 and the coach up to 60. The S-Class is hourly only.
Barcelona city tour ideas
A day in the city works best with a few anchors and some slack. These are popular choices:
- Sagrada Família and Passeig de Gràcia. Entry to the basilica is by timed ticket, so book on the official site, Sagrada Família, and tell me the entry time. I plan the rest around it.
- Park Güell and the hills. Good for views, and for guests who dislike steep walking: the driver drops you close to the entrance and meets you afterwards.
- Gothic Quarter and El Born. Narrow streets, so the car waits at a nearby point while you walk. The driver knows where.
- Montjuïc. Museums, gardens and viewpoints in one area. Good for the afternoon.
- Barceloneta and the port. A slower finish, with a seafood lunch.
The city’s visitor information is at Visit Barcelona. Check opening days and tickets there, because I do not state them.
Day trips from Barcelona
Several excursions have fixed one-way prices in the owner’s table, in euros with VAT:
| Destination | E-Class or V-Class | Sprinter | Minibus or coach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montserrat | €135 | €410 | €495 |
| Sitges | €135 | €345 | €420 |
| Girona | €210 | €610 | €750 |
These are one-way transfer prices. If you want the driver to wait and bring you back, the day is booked as hourly hire, or quoted on request for other routes. Read about Montserrat and its official site at Montserrat visitor information, the Penedès wine tour, or Girona. Longer routes, such as Andorra, are quoted separately.
Choosing between a transfer and a tour
If you only want to go to a place and come back the same evening, a one-way price might be enough at each end. If you want to stop, walk and have lunch with the car waiting, hourly hire is the format. I suggest the cheaper structure when you describe your day in the form, without pushing you to a longer booking.
Planning a good itinerary
Three rules help:
- Fewer stops than you think. Two or three main stops and a meal fill a day comfortably.
- Cluster by area. Sagrada Família and Passeig de Gràcia are close; Montjuïc is on the other side of the centre.
- Fix timed entries first. Tickets for popular attractions control the order. Build the rest around them.
The driver can then handle the logistics: drop-off points, waiting time and parking.
Sample day: Gaudí and the old town
This is one structure I suggest for first-time visitors with a full day. Times depend on your tickets.
- Morning: Sagrada Família on a timed ticket. Arrive a little early and let the driver handle the drop-off.
- Late morning: Passeig de Gràcia, with Casa Batlló and Casa Milà for those who want to go inside, or simply to see from the street.
- Lunch: a restaurant of your choice. If you tell me the area, I park nearby and wait.
- Afternoon: the Gothic Quarter on foot, with the car meeting you at the other end so you do not walk back.
- Evening: Montjuïc for the views, or a drive along the seafront.
One well-paced day is enough for the main sights, and a second day works better outside the city.
Sample day: Montserrat and the countryside
Montserrat is the most requested excursion. The one-way price is in the table above, and for a half-day with waiting time the 6-hour minimum applies. The mountain has its own visitor information on Montserrat visitor information; check the services you plan to use before you travel. My own advice is to leave early, because the later you arrive the more crowded the site is.
Sample day: the coast
Sitges is a natural half-day from the city: a walk by the sea, lunch, and a return in the evening. For wine, the Penedès region is a separate theme, covered on the wine tour page. Both can be combined in a long day if you hire the driver for 8 hours or more.
Corporate and group tours
Companies often ask for a tour for visiting delegations. The same hourly structure applies, with the Sprinter, minibus or coach for larger groups. See corporate event chauffeur for the business side, and tell me the group size so I choose the right vehicle.
