Girona-Costa Brava Airport is the gateway for the northern Costa Brava, the Pyrenees foothills and the city of Girona itself. People searching for barcelona to girona airport usually want one of two things: a ride from the city to catch a flight, or a pickup after landing there to reach Barcelona. I handle both as a private transfer, and this page explains the distances, the options and how to ask for a price.
Barcelona to Girona airport: distance and time
There are two common starting points, and the drive differs between them:
- Central Barcelona (Plaça de Catalunya) to Girona-Costa Brava Airport: 96 km, about 1 h 15 min without traffic. See the route on Google Maps.
- Barcelona-El Prat Airport to Girona-Costa Brava Airport: 109 km, about 1 h 25 min without traffic. See it on Google Maps.
These are free-flow times. The ring roads around Barcelona are slow at the morning and evening peaks, so for a flight I add margin rather than plan to the minute.
Girona airport to Barcelona
The reverse route is the more searched one: girona airport to barcelona is the larger of the two searches in this cluster. The drive is the same distance, and I meet you in arrivals and take you to a hotel, an apartment, a business address or on to El Prat for a connecting flight. Give me the flight number or landing time and I plan the pickup around it. If your flight is delayed, tell me and I adjust.
Price: quoted on request
Girona airport is not in my fixed price table. I quote the route on request, with VAT included, once I know the date, the pickup address and the vehicle. I do not publish a range, because the figure depends on those details. The fixed prices I do publish, such as Barcelona to Girona city, are on the prices page, and the Barcelona to Girona city transfer page shows the city run.
Bus, train, taxi or private chauffeur
The searches around this route name all of them: train, bus, shuttle, taxi. I do not publish timetables or fares for operators other than mine, because they change and the operators’ own sites are the right source. For trains, see Renfe. For the bus and shuttle options, check the carrier’s site on the day you travel.
What I can tell you is how a private transfer compares in practice:
- No change of vehicle. A train stops at Girona city and the airport is a separate trip. By road the car goes straight to the terminal.
- Luggage. Suitcases, ski bags and sports gear stay in the vehicle from the door to the terminal.
- Fixed pick-up time. The departure is planned around your flight, not around a timetable.
- Groups. Four or more passengers with bags often fit better in the V-Class than in a taxi.
Choosing the vehicle
| Group | Vehicle |
|---|---|
| 1 to 3 passengers | Mercedes E-Class |
| Up to 7 passengers or lots of luggage | Mercedes V-Class |
| Up to 16 passengers | Mercedes Sprinter |
| Up to 33 passengers | Minibus |
| Up to 60 passengers | Coach |
For one or two travellers with cases, the E-Class is enough. For a family or a team with equipment, I would book the V-Class or the Sprinter.
Planning the timing for a flight
When you travel to the airport, I work backwards from the departure time. Follow your airline’s guidance on how early to arrive for check-in and bag drop, then add the drive time and a margin for traffic. When you land, I plan from the arrival time and wait for you in the hall. If the plans change, a message is enough.
Girona airport onward to the Costa Brava
Many passengers landing at Girona are not heading to Barcelona at all. They go on to the coast or the Pyrenees foothills. If that is your plan, the same car continues to your hotel. My page on Barcelona to the Costa Brava explains how I handle coastal towns, and the Catalan government’s tourism portal is a good starting point for choosing where to stay.
Heading the other way from Barcelona-El Prat Airport itself? My Barcelona airport transfer page covers the pickup in detail.
