Figueres is the easiest of the Catalan day trips to get wrong. The museum is the reason to go, but the road there is 138 km each way, so the day is mostly planning: when to leave, how long to stay, and where to eat. I plan the route with you and keep the vehicle and driver with your group the whole day.
This page is for guests who want to go from Barcelona to the Dalí Museum privately. If you are weighing it against other days out, see private tours with a chauffeur.
Barcelona to Figueres: distance and time
The Dalí Theatre-Museum is 138 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 1 h 40 min without traffic. Real times depend on the day: Friday afternoons, holiday weekends and summer mornings on the northbound motorway are slower than the figure suggests. You can open the route on Google Maps.
A sensible departure is early morning. That gives you time on site and keeps the return out of the worst of the evening traffic.
How the price works for a day in Figueres
A Figueres day trip is booked as a driver at your disposal. The vehicle and driver stay with you from pick-up to drop-off, including the hours you spend inside the museum.
The estimate below is a round trip of 1 h 40 min each way plus 4 hours on site, rounded up to the half hour. That is 7.5 hours of hire, which is above the 6-hour minimum. Prices are in euros and include VAT.
| Vehicle | Passengers | 7.5 hours of hire |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 | €590 |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | €590 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | €740 |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €845 |
| Coach | up to 60 | €845 |
| Mercedes S-Class (hourly only) | up to 3 | €930 |
If you stay longer, extra hours are charged at the hourly rate: €80 per hour in the E-Class or V-Class, €90 in the Sprinter, €110 in the minibus or coach, and €125 in the S-Class. For the full list, see the prices page.
Which vehicle for the Dalí Museum
- E-Class. Up to 3 passengers. Suits a couple or a small family that wants quiet and room for coats.
- V-Class. Up to 7 passengers. The usual choice for a family or a group of friends, with the same estimate as the E-Class.
- Sprinter. Up to 16 passengers. A good fit for a larger family reunion or a small corporate day out. See Sprinter van with driver.
- Minibus or coach. Up to 33 or 60 passengers, for schools, associations and incentive groups. See coach hire.
Planning your time at the museum
The museum, not the drive, sets the pace of the day. Opening days, hours and ticket types are set by the museum, so check the official Dalí Theatre-Museum page before choosing a date. If your day needs timed entry, I build the departure around it.
Four hours on site is enough for the museum and lunch in the old town. If you also want the Dalí house in Portlligat or the village of Cadaqués, that is a longer day. I would quote it as hourly hire or on request, and the page on Barcelona to Cadaqués covers the coastal leg.
Private tour or public transport
Searches for this trip bring up trains, tickets and group tours. I do not publish rail fares or times; Renfe is the right source for those. What a private driver changes is practical:
- Door to door. The driver collects you at your hotel or address and drops you back there.
- Your timetable. You choose the departure and how long to stay.
- Luggage and shopping. Everything stays in the vehicle during the visit.
- One vehicle for the group. Nobody has to split up, which matters for mixed-age parties.
A sample day
This is how I would typically shape the day, and you can change any part of it:
- Morning departure. Pick-up at your hotel or address early enough to reach Figueres with time to spare before the museum gets busy.
- Museum visit. The driver drops you close to the entrance and stays with the vehicle or nearby. You tell me when you are ready to leave.
- Lunch in town. Figueres has plenty of places to eat within walking distance of the museum. I can suggest an area, but I do not endorse specific restaurants.
- Return. You leave when you choose. If you stay longer than planned, extra hours are charged at the hourly rate and I tell you before the day ends, not after.
Dalí Museum private tour: what to check before you book
Several things change from one season to another, so check them before you fix the date:
- Opening days and hours. The museum publishes them, and they can differ between high and low season. Use the official page linked above.
- Tickets. Buy them from the museum or an authorised seller. I book the vehicle, not the entry, so I do not sell tickets.
- Guided tour. If you want a guide, arrange it separately. The driver is there to drive, not to guide the museum.
- Accessibility. If anyone in your party has reduced mobility, tell me when you ask for the quote and I choose the vehicle and drop-off point with that in mind. Check access inside the museum with the museum itself.
Adding Girona or the Costa Brava
Figueres is on the way to several other places that guests often want to combine with it. Girona is a natural stop on the way up or back; the page on Barcelona to Girona covers that city. The coast around Cadaqués is a further leg north-east. Each stop adds hours, so the honest question is how many places you can enjoy in a day without rushing. For most parties, the museum plus one other stop is the limit.
If your plan is longer than a day, such as a night on the coast, tell me. Several days are quoted on request, and I would rather plan it properly than stretch a day trip into something it is not.
Business groups and incentive days
Figueres works well for corporate groups with a free afternoon, such as a congress delegation or an incentive day. A Sprinter or minibus keeps the group together, and a single quote covers the whole day. Ask for the executive transport option if the group includes senior guests who want the S-Class or V-Class instead. State the group size, the departure point and the finish time, and I confirm the vehicle by e-mail or WhatsApp.
