Cadaqués sits on the far north-east of the Costa Brava, near Cap de Creus, and it is not a town you reach quickly. A private driver from Barcelona takes the question of the road, the parking and the return out of the day. This page gives the distance, the time and the prices I can confirm for a Barcelona to Cadaqués transfer.
Barcelona to Cadaqués: distance and time
The drive from central Barcelona (Plaça de Catalunya) to Cadaqués is 170 km, about 2 h 15 min without traffic. The last stretch is a winding road, so the real time depends on the season and the day. In summer and on weekends, allow more.
You can see the route on Google Maps. For general information about the region, the official tourism site is Catalonia tourism.
Prices for Cadaqués
Prices are in euros and include VAT.
One-way transfer. Barcelona to Cadaqués is not in my fixed price table, so a one-way transfer is quoted on request. Send the date, the pick-up address and the number of passengers through the form and I answer with a price in writing.
Day trip with the driver at your disposal. If you want to spend time in Cadaqués and return the same day, the estimate is based on the hours: a round trip of 2 h 15 min each way, plus 4 hours in the town, rounded up to the half hour. That is 8.5 hours of hire.
| Vehicle | Passengers | 8.5 hours of hire |
|---|---|---|
| E-Class | up to 3 | €665 |
| S-Class | up to 3 | €1,055 |
| V-Class | up to 7 | €665 |
| Sprinter | up to 16 | €825 |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €950 |
| Coach | up to 60 | €950 |
The base is the owner’s hourly table: 6 hours is the daily minimum, and each hour after that is charged at the vehicle’s hourly rate. If you stay longer or shorter than 4 hours, the total changes by the hour, and I confirm the final figure before you book. The full rate card is on the prices page.
Transfer or day trip?
A one-way transfer is for guests who are staying in Cadaqués or the area and need to get there with their luggage. A day trip is for guests staying in Barcelona who want to see the town and come back.
If you are travelling with more than three people, the V-Class takes up to 7 at the same price as the E-Class; see the Mercedes V-Class with a driver. Larger groups can use the Sprinter (up to 16) or the minibus (up to 33).
Barcelona to Cadaqués by public transport
Many searches ask about the train, bus or boat. I cannot give you timetables, because they change and I do not hold an official source for them. What I can say is that a private car is the direct option: it picks you up where you are and drops you where you are going, without changes.
For public-transport planning in Catalonia, start with the Catalan Government site.
Make a longer trip of it
Cadaqués combines well with other stops on the way, because the driver stays with you:
- Figueres. The Dalí Theatre-Museum is in Figueres, on the way north. See Figueres and the Dalí Museum and the museum’s official site, Dalí Theatre-Museum.
- Girona. The old town makes a good first or last stop. See the Girona transfer.
- Costa Brava. For other coastal towns, read about the Costa Brava transfer.
Each extra stop adds time to the day, and the hours are charged at the hourly rate. Tell me what you want to see and I plan a realistic schedule.
Why Cadaqués is worth the drive
Cadaqués is a white-washed fishing town on a bay, reached by a road that climbs and twists in its last part. It is the kind of place where parking is awkward in high season and where the day is more pleasant if someone else drives. The area around Cap de Creus is a natural park, and the town has long been associated with artists.
I do not list opening times, ticket prices or restrictions for the town, because they change and the right source is the local one. Check the official tourism pages before you go, and tell me if you want to plan around a specific visit.
A realistic day-trip plan
The day-trip estimate assumes 4 hours in Cadaqués. A plan that fits it:
- Morning departure from your hotel in Barcelona.
- Arrival in Cadaqués after about 2 h 15 min.
- Four hours in town: a walk through the old streets, the waterfront, a long lunch.
- Return drive of about 2 h 15 min, with a stop if you want one.
The total is 8.5 hours of hire. If you want a longer stay, add the extra hours at the hourly rate of the vehicle, for example €80 per hour in the E-Class or V-Class.
Cadaqués for groups
The V-Class takes up to 7 passengers at the same hourly price as the E-Class. For larger groups, the Sprinter takes 16, the minibus 33 and the coach 60. See the minibus hire with a driver page. Send the numbers and I choose the vehicle with you.
Before you travel
Cadaqués is at the end of the road, so a little preparation helps. Tell me the address where you want to be dropped off if you are staying in the town, because access to some streets is limited and the driver will plan the final approach. If you are going for the day, decide in advance whether you want a set return time or an open one, and I plan the hours accordingly.
Mention anyone in the group who needs extra time or who is sensitive to winding roads. The last stretch has many curves, and a short stop on the way can make the trip easier for them.
Taxi or private driver
Some travellers search for a Barcelona to Cadaqués taxi. A taxi works on a meter and its price depends on the route; for a distance like this, many people prefer to agree the price first. With me you know the total before you travel. For official information on taxis in the Barcelona area, see the AMB taxi page.
